Limassol – The Costas Tsielepis & Co series of social events for 2025 kicked off with Tsielepis Art Night at Cornaro Art Institute in the old town of Limassol.
The evening put into perspective what French impressionist, Edgar Degas, once said: “Painting is easy when you don’t know how, but very difficult when you do.”
Tsielepis staff and guests had a great time validating his words.
Art Night was held on Wednesday, 12 February and started with food and wine, which included selected delicacies from Bavarian Delicatessen in Limassol.
It was followed by a PowerPoint talk by renowned local artist, Andros Efstathiou, who also runs Cornaro. Efstathiou talked about the history of the Cornaro Institute and the wonders and benefits of art in our daily lives. He then talked about his work, inspiring attendees to engage, many for the first time, to an in-depth analysis of art and what drives artists to create.
Then, the highlight of the evening came when Tsielepis staff and guests took up a pencil or charcoal to draw under the guidance of Efstathiou, an accomplished artist who insisted that “everyone can paint.”
After a brief introduction by Efstathiou (it was a pep talk really), the wannabe artists started to scribble on paper.
During the session, the developing artworks drew (excuse the pun) quite a few grimaces from Efstathiou, who nevertheless made an effort to point out rare glimpses of artistic inclination.
When forced to pick out the best drawing of the night, he chose the work of one of the Tsielepis brothers, Kyriakos, to cheers from his colleagues and a surprised look from him. Second came the ‘artwork’ of Tax Consultant, Andreas Faidonos.
